International Day for Persons Living with Disabilities
The 3 rd of December is International Day for Persons Living with Disabilities with this year’s celebrations in Cape Town taking place at the Green Point Park, in Green Point, Cape Town. The theme for this year’s celebration is in line with the United Nations “Together for a better life for all, including persons with disabilities in development.”
The celebrations in Cape Town have been organised by the Western Cape Network on Disability and everyone wanting to attend has been asked to assemble in the car park of the Virgin Active gym in Green Point from 9 AM. At 9:30 AM the entire group will march to the amphitheatre in the gardens where the group will be addressed by various guest speakers. Cape Town’s Mayor, Patricia De Lille, will be attending for a short while and Robin Carlisle, the MEC for transport in the Western Cape is also due to address the group.
There will be various organisations will have stalls with information about the services that they offer to people living with disabilities. After the formalities of the day have been completed, there will be entertainment and everyone will be encouraged to browse the various stands that are there. A lunch will be provided to each person living with a disability who attends. The organisers have asked everyone who attends to please ensure that they take all their refuse with them to ensure that the beautiful Green Point Park is left in the same state that we found it in.
QAWC wishes each and every one of our members a happy International Day for Persons Living with Disabilities and hopes that you all have a memorable and enjoyable day.
